Basic Guide to Carp Fishing Tackle
Choosing the best carp fishing tackle could be stressful especially
if you do not know the basic characteristics of the gear. It is necessary
to know the significant factors affecting the tackle's performance and this
includes the rod's test curve, the rod's action and the
rod's lifting power. | |
|
Carp Fishing Tackle's Rod Test Curve
The rod test curve refers to the amount of weight necessary to
make the rod end to bend at 90 degrees to the butt end. It is the
measure of firmness of the rod. If the weight of the carp is 3 to 10 pounds,
then the rod test curve of your carp fishing tackle must be more of less 10
pounds of pressure. If the test curve is lower than the weight of the fish,
the rod might break off.
Carp Fishing Tackle's Action of the Rod
The rod action is the representation of the rod's bend ability.
If the rod bends at the bottom 1/3 of its end, then the action is slow.
If the rod bends at the uppermost half of the rod from the end, then
the action is medium pace. And lastly, if the rod bends within the
upper 1/3 part, then the action of the rod is fast.
Carp Fishing Tackle's Performance
The carp fishing tackle's performance is mainly defined
by the rod's strength or lifting power. The lifting power must
be directly proportional to the strength of the line. If the rod has
heavy lifting power but the line is light, the rod will break.
The opposite of this will also give the same result. The lifting
power must also depend on the type of water where the carp are.
If the water is clear, the lifting power has to be low.
If the water is turbid due to heavy cover, the lifting power of the rod has to be high.
Carp Fishing Tackle and Bait
To be sure you can snag a bunch of carp, you have
to prepare satisfying boilies. Here are some recipes of
savory home-made boilies.
Tuna Boilie
In a large bowl, mix all the dry ingredients:
500 grams (18 ounces) of finely ground barramundi pellets or trout pellets,
125 to 150 grams (5 ounces) corn meal, and 125 to 150 grams (5 ounces) approx of
fine semolina.
In another container, mix the following ingredients:
6 large eggs, 8 - 10 liter (2 gallons) Solar Squid and Octopus Koi Rearer flavor,
4 or 5 desert spoons of tuna oil, and 1 - 2ml (1/2 teaspoon) Solar Liquid Candy sweetener.
Mix the 2 mixtures and make the balls
(around 150mm (6 inches) in diameter).
Boil the balls for three minutes.
Dry on paper towels and let it cool for a few minutes.
Chicken Savory Boilies
Mix all these dry ingredients in a large container:
300g (10.5 ounces) poultry protein meal,
150g (5.25 ounces) corn flour,
50g (2 ounces) bread flour.
Add few drops of dark food color.
4 large eggs and add it to the mixture. You can add some liquid sweetener.
Roll into logs and divide into the size you want your boilie to be. Roll into a ball.

The Perfect Combination of Carp Fishing Tackle and Sweet Home-made Boilies
Using improper fishing tackle for carp could be expensive and
time consuming. It is very important to have the best fishing
tackle suited for an angler's fishing needs. Aside from that,
it is also essential to find the most affordable and suitable bait
for the carp. Thus, good carp fishing tackle plus appealing boilies,
equals more catching carp!
|
There are two basic types of carp fishing tackle. The first type is the rod and reel. The rod is usually 10 to 13 feet long and is made up of tubular carbon fiber. The reel is affixed close to the end of the rod. The reel holds a long length of line which runs up to the other end of the rod through eyelets. The line is retrieved by turning the handle on the reel. On the other hand, the other type of fishing tackle is the pole. Contrary to the first type, the pole has no reel. The line is just attached on the end of the pole.
To maximize the feeding responses of carp, it is necessary to find highly palatable bait to the carps. Boilies are cooked bait which is widely used by carp anglers nowadays. There are commercially available boilies, however, home-made boilies are easy to make and much more affordable. Here are two recipes of sweet home-made boilies to use with any of your finest carp fishing tackle.
Sweet Cornmeal Bait
Combine 12oz. or 375ml of cornmeal with 4 oz. of brown sugar in a large bowl.
Add 3 large eggs and 2 oz of cooking oil into the mixture.
Keep on stirring until the mixture becomes a thick paste.
Add a few drops of red food color to make it attractive to the carp when you cast it into the water.
Get a small amount of paste and roll it in your palms. You can put some cooking oil in your palms prior to rolling to prevent the paste from sticking to your hands. You can base the size of the ball on the size of the carp that you want to catch. However, the general size of uncooked bait is 2-3cm (1 to 1.5 inches)..
Boil the balls in water for 2-3 minutes. The boiling makes the balls larger by about 30%. Do not undercook the balls for they might turn out to be too soft and won't attach to your carp fishing tackle.
After boiling, take the balls out of the water using a metal strainer. Then place the boilies on a paper towel for initial drying. Let the boilies cool for a few minutes. When the temperature is low enough for you to hold them, transfer them into a drying rack and set aside for 5-6 hours. After drying, place them in a bag and put them inside the freezer until the time you need them.
Sweet Millet Bait
Mix the following dry ingredients together:
3 cups hulled millet,
1 cup wheat bran,
 cup soy meal,
1 1/3 cup flour.
In a sauce pan, heat 4oz of Karo syrup (or other corn syrup) together with 4 oz of maple syrup for 3 minutes. Set aside for 5 hours.
Mix dry ingredients with the syrup mixture.
Form into balls and boil for 2-3 minutes. Follow step 6 of the Sweet Cornmeal Bait recipe.
Most of all, don't forget the two secrets to pinning down the hard to catch carp - find the best carp fishing tackle that suits your budget and prepare good home-made boilies! |

There are a lot of baits out there available in the market today. But you can actually make your own. Carp bite almost anything, from bread, to corn, to peanuts and even luncheon meat. However, the most popular home made bait is the boiled variety, also known as boilies.
Boilies come in different sizes and even in different flavors. They are also the most proven baits when it comes to carp. You can use some of the recipes right here on this page, in some of the articles here, and you can try some of them to see which one would be the most effective. It usually starts with the standard base mix, and then you can add flavourings. It is noted that flavoured boilies generally fall under two categories; the sweet and the savoury. Although do remember that too much flavour can be the opposite of what you want. Carps bite smelly baits, but with the flavour being too much, it might turn them away.
Apart from your standard baits, you can also do some chumming. Chumming is when you throw additional bait, or "chum" in the water, after casting your line, to lure them to your bait. It can be boilies that you throw in together with your boilie bait, or some other kind of bait. You can find a lot of information on chumming on the 'net. Do note that there are some areas where chumming is illegal. Make sure you check with the local government first before you do some carp chumming. Carp fishing legally and responsibly is always encouraged.
With all these things in mind, you are now ready to catch your carp. Remember to have good bait, the best carp fishing tackle, and of course patience and determination. Now go and tackle that fish!

How To Choose The Right Carp Fishing Tackle
Carp fishing is a great sport that a lot of people are getting interested in. It is both fun and challenging. The challenge comes as carp have enormous strength. Carp fishing therefore, would not end with the carp biting your bait. As more and more people get hooked in this fishing sport, make sure that you know how you can capture these large powerful creatures.
|
For you to be able to enjoy carp fishing, you have to have the right kind of carp fishing tackle. There are different factors that you need to consider when you are choosing your carp fishing tackle. Here are some things you have to think of:
Make sure that you buy the right type of rods. This would depend on the type of carp fishing that you would do. If you want to get your carp from the shore, you would need a light carp fishing rod. A ten-foot model type of fishing rod would be good for you.
Consider the lines. Make sure that you would also look at the line that you would use. It should be strong enough to hold your catches. To determine the line weight, compute the test curve of your rod by multiplying it by five. You could ask different carp fishing enthusiasts about which brands of lines work best.
Look at different fishing reels. You would only be able to find the right carp fishing tackle for you if you know where and how to look. With this, it is important to note that reels are as important as any part of your carp fishing tackle. Bait runner type reels are good for carp fishing, since this allows the carp to let go of your fishing gear and bait. If your carp fishing tackle is weak, it would break if the reel that you use would not allow the bait to go with the fish. If you do not want to use such a reel, then you have to make sure that your line is strong enough to handle high tension from the carp pulling and tugging on your fishing gear.
Get heavy sinkers. You have to choose sinkers that will go right down to the bottom of the lake or river where you will be fishing. It should also be strong enough so that you can use it even against strong currents. The reason for this is that carp feed on the bottom of a river or lake. You have to make sure that your bait can reach the bottom.
Get good hooks. It is best if you would get different kinds of hooks for your carp fishing tackle. This is to have more flexibility in dealing with any situation. Choose hooks that range from 4 to 12 in terms of size. You may also opt for treble hooks, since they have a good chance of hooking carp. However, you have to check the rules in carp fishing in your area, as some hooks may not be allowed.
